What is FuelKit?

FuelKit is a privacy-first food and macro tracker. Search a food or enter it manually, log it to breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a snack, and see the day’s calories and macros against a target calculated from your own profile and weight goal. Your data stays on your device — no account, no ads, no tracking.

Frequently asked questions

Where is my data stored? Is it backed up?

Your food log, weight entries, profile, and settings are stored locally on your device. Nothing is sent to us. If you use iCloud or iTunes/Finder device backups, your FuelKit data is included in that private backup, which only you control.

Where do the nutrition numbers come from?

Food searches query USDA FoodData Central, a U.S. government nutrition database, and (for packaged goods in a future update) Open Food Facts, an open community database. Only your search text is sent — never your log or personal details. Entries you type manually never leave your device at all.

Why don’t the calories match the label exactly?

FuelKit always calculates calories from the macros using the standard Atwater factors (4 kcal per gram of protein and carbohydrate, 9 for fat, 7 for alcohol). That keeps a single source of truth, so edits to a food never leave stale calorie totals behind. Printed labels are rounded, so you may see a small difference.

How are my calorie and protein targets calculated?

Your BMR uses the Mifflin–St Jeor formula from your height, age, biological sex, and latest bodyweight, multiplied by your activity level to estimate maintenance calories. Your goal then adjusts that (about 3,500 kcal per pound). Protein scales with your bodyweight, fat is a share of your calorie target, and carbs fill the remainder. Once you’ve logged enough weigh-ins and days of food, FuelKit recalibrates maintenance from your actual results instead of the formula. All of it is an estimate, not medical or nutritional advice.

Can I scan barcodes?

Not in this version. Barcode scanning is planned — the nutrition database that powers it is already wired up. For now, search by name or enter macros manually.

Does FuelKit connect to Apple Health or LiftKit?

Not yet. Optional Apple Health sharing is planned so your calories can appear alongside your training in LiftKit and RunKit. It will be off by default and require your explicit permission.

Do I need an account or internet connection?

No account, ever. An internet connection is only needed to search the food databases — manual entry, editing, and everything else works fully offline.

How do I fix or delete something I logged?

Tap any entry in a meal to edit its name, meal, or macros; swipe it left to delete. To erase everything at once, use Delete All Data at the bottom of the main screen. Deleting the app also removes its local data.

Privacy

FuelKit collects no personal data and includes no tracking or ads. Read the full Privacy Policy.
